Hi, I'm Makayla
Hi, I’m Makayla. I like hiking, road trips, line dancing, attempting to play guitar, and finding the kinds of experiences that turn into good stories later. I’ve always believed some of the best stories come from taking the scenic route, even when you have absolutely no idea where it’s leading.
I tend to collect stories by saying yes to experiences that sound interesting, slightly ridiculous, or worth doing at least once. My first memoir grew out of one of those experiences: a year during COVID when trying to get out of the house and connect with people somehow turned into sixty first dates. What started as a strange chapter of my life eventually became a story about dating, loneliness, friendship, adventure, and figuring out what actually matters when you’re looking for connection.
This site is where I’ll share updates about that book, future writing projects, and whatever other detours eventually become stories worth telling.
